Gastromania Feast @ Far East Square Stop 6:
Mirchi - Taste of India

Mirchi - Taste of India

I love Indian Food and there's a pitstop at a Indian restaurant!
Mirchi - The taste of India is part of the Harry's Bars.

Tandoori Platter

This was the "Tandoori Non-Vegetarian Kebab Platter". $29
(Yes, they have a Tandoori Vegetarian Kebab Platter too).

On it were an assortment of fish tikka, chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab and prawns spiced with tandoori masala.

We had tasting portions and I like the pranws and the fish tikka. Chicken was all right but I found the lamb a bit dry.

Mint sauce and mango chutney

Well, what do you do to 'undry' the lamb? Add some mint sauce or mango chutney to the lamb seekh kebab. It made it taste better. ;-)

lassitude

We were all served lassi and the name of this lassi is Lassitude! Lassi with an attitude!

Bollywood Dances

It's quite common to see big TV screen with Bollywood dance shows.
I actually find them quite enjoyable to watch!

Eat me and it gives you nice breath!

Like many Indian restaurants along race course road, they have this mouth 'cleanser' that's edible!
Found theirs here a bit sweet! I prefer those shops that serve cardamon! Perhaps cardamon is now quite expensive!

Mirchi - Taste of India Discounts

Saw a banner outside the shop that gives a discount. Shall not mention the name. You can see it for yourself ;-)

Masala Art - Peninsula Plaza

Those who was wondering about yesterday's quiz, it's at this place called Masala Art at Peninsula Plaza.

We had Indian Food Buffet there, we were celebrating two person's birthday from my CG.
Not showing the all the food from the buffet line, but this is interesting.

There's this guy making chapati there. Freshly made chapati just taste delicious!

The entrance to the shop, it's at Basement 1, Peninsula Plaza.

This guy making naan.

Another picture of the process.

After rolling the dough (yesterday's photo), the piece of flattened dough is put on the flat pan.

The naan is then put over the fire to make it expand!

There you go.... The above is the chapati making process.

Here, this is nann breads that is made in the kitchen. It is served to us in baskets like this.

Interesting ya?

Deepavali Sweets: Mithai

OK, I am posting something totally out of the occasion. I know it's not Deepavali. I thought I would dig out something that many of you have not seen before.

Deepavali Sweets. This box was given by a Indian Prof at my workplace. Previous years he gave some which I think was imported from India, they were too sweet for our liking. This box he gave is Singapore-made/company, thus fits into Singapura Daily Makan ;-)

Mithai is Tamil for sweets and snacks. Wikipedia it to know more.

This box came from Bombay Cafe. I have never ate there, but by the looks at its website, it seems like a very expensive place.

This is how it looks like when the box is opened. Yes, they have silver on it! We ate silver! They are called Varak, gossamer-thin silver sheets that covers the Mithai.

The next two close up, for you to see the texture, too bad, we do not have technology that enables you to smell or taste it yet. haha..

Hope that's an eye opener for some of you. The taste? It's actually quite nice!! Very green bean-ish for this box. They are not too sweet as well. Well, the next Deepavali season, go down to Little India and get some. Maybe you got to order it, I guess they would be rather expensive with pure silver that you can eat!

Indian Food

This is lunch with colleagues. It is the Indian Food at the Engineering Canteen, NUS.

Depending on what you pick, lunch will be around SGD2 - SGD3.

This is Ladies Fingers (or Okra). One of my favourites.

This is chilli tofu. Tasty?

It is served on a metal tray with compartments. This is the rice, usually topped with curry of your choice.
