Paradise Dynasty @ ION Orchard

Momo and I bought some online discount coupons for the Paradise Dynasty XLB few months ago and Momo reminded me that they were expiring. We thought we better use them soon! We could only use them on a weekday so we took an afternoon leave one day last week to have lunch and then run some errands.

These coupon sites always tempt you to buy and buy! I have forgotten to use some previously and they expired!

Paradise Dynasty

The colourful Xiao Long Baos of Paradise Dynasty! Using the 'groupon voucher' it is $7.90.

Momo and another two friend had them a week ago (also using coupons! haha) and told me it was not really memorable. I find them OK, but only if you eat them a certain way! I realise I can taste the different flavours if I bite the top of the XLB and suck the juice out first. It's very subtle.

I followed the instructions on which flavour to eat first as well. If I come back again, I would go for certain flavours only. I would only go for Ginseng, Crab Roe and Szechuan. I will give the rest a miss. ;-)

Paradise Dynasty

Poached chicken in Spicy Chilli Sauce. $7.80

Both Momo and I like this dish more than the XLB! It's served really cold and it is also really spicy! We have always loved this dish and orders it at different places. The ones here are quite good!

Paradise Dynasty

We ordered a fried La Mian with black fungus to nibble as well. $10.

We like this too. It had the 'wok hei' smell and it almost reminded us of char kway teow. Momo said if only they had cockles inside, it would be perfect!

Paradise Dynasty

We also had the La Mian soup with deep fried pork ribs. $11.80
The noodles are nice, but the broth is a bit salty. We improvised by draining the noodles and mixed it with the spicy chili sauce from the chicken instead. We liked it! So spicy and so tasty!

Paradise Dynasty

The pork ribs were served on a separate plate. As the broth has been designed to be salty, they did not make the deep fried ribs so salty to go with it. Since we ate the noodles with chilli, we enjoyed munching the deep fried ribs on its own.

Yet to try the other dishes, but we liked the spicy chicken and fried la mian.

BK Crunchy Nacho Burgers

Momo and I were at ION Orchard grabbing some stuff and we were looking for a place for a quick bite. If you have seen the posters all around Singapore, Burger King is having the BK Crunchy Nacho Burgers. We thought we would try it out.

Onion Rings

We ordered two set meals.

Looking at the onion rings, how many of you know that it has been a while since you can choose either fries or onions? In 'ancient' time, you would need to top up if you want to switch to onion rings.

Do you know that it has been a while, probably a year or two, that you can choose onion rings if you are not a fries person without paying a cent more?

Nacho Whopper Jr

Momo's Nacho Whopper Jr.

Momo likes nachos or any corn related stuff. The first bite, she said it was nothing special, but as she tasted the corn flavours, she said it was nice.

It had spicy jalapeno BBQ sauce which gives it a slight spiciness. There were also caramelized onions. (The reason they are called Nacho burgers, the tortilla chips with the spicy jalapeno BBQ Sauce etc!)

Nacho Tendergrill Chicken

I had the Nacho Tendergrill Chicken.

I am not a very nacho person, so I find it ok. The nachos gives it a slight crunchiness.
The slight crunch made the burger a little unique though. I like the spicy jalapeno BBQ sauce and caramelized onions that was added to the usual tendergrill chicken burger.

Black Pepper Basil Drumlets

For now, BK is giving out Black Pepper Basil Drumlets with any of the Nacho Crunchy Burger meal.
They are tasty except a little small.

What Momo and I discovered is that at Burger King, when you pay using your EZ Link card, you can get 50 cents off every two meals. So we paid using our EZ Link card ;-)

Available at all Burger King outlets Singapore wide from 2 to 29 June 2011.
It will be off their menu from 30 June 2011. So hurry if you want to try it out.

Marmalade Pantry @ ION Orchard

The story today. Momo and Dino was meeting up for dinner for the ladies catch up session and I gatecrashed. They have been saying the food's here so nice that I was yearning to try it!

The ladies opted for the healthy stuff in the menu.

Momo had the "Chopped Grilled Vegetable Salad". $21

My fork seemed to have grown legs and walked over to this plate and I tried some.
It consisted of grilled vegetables with butternut, eggplant, asparagus, sweet corn, peppers and mesclun. Very good mix and it tasted rather good.

Dino had something that was light too. She had the Miso Tofu with vegetable tempura. $18.
Looks nice doesn't it?

For me, I needed meat. I had The Marmalade Burger with roast tomato chudney. $24.
I requested it to be "medium done" for doneness.

The Marmalade Burger

It might look simple, but it taste rather good. The patty was really moist inside. The mango chudney (hidden below the upper bun) went really well with the burger.

I was watching an episode of Chef At Home and chef Michael Smith was preparing burgers. He said something that I remembered. He said when we are grilling patties, we should never press patty when we are cooking it, the juices will all flow out and you won't get juicy in the inside burgers.

I have a feeling the kitchen at Marmalade Pantry did not press it too. It looks nicely grilled, but inside it was juicy. I should have taken a photo of the inside. I grabbed the burger and ate it with my hands, so I did not want to hold my camera anymore. ;-)

Had a really pleasant meal with the ladies.
